First off, raw and rough-cut diamonds are essentially the same in that they are uncut stones that have not been shaped or polished in any way. The effect highlights the natural shape of a diamond to appear as though it’s a regular stone and not a precious gem (so subtle and chic) and comes in every color imaginable from white, yellow, and gray diamonds to rarer shades of brown, blue, and red. As these stones are in their most natural form, they are cloudy in appearance or, in other words, have inclusions which give each stone a lot more personality than a traditionally cut and polished white diamond. That’s not to say that these stones don’t shine. While raw or rough-cut diamonds don’t twinkle in the traditional sense, many have a more subdued shimmer that catches the light at various angles of the stones uneven surface.
